TED Talk Essay Paper

TED Talk Essay Paper.

INSTRUCTIONS

For the third and final project you are to watch a video (TED Talks) and write a reflection paper about what you experienced.  Reflection papers describe an event or experience, then analyze the meaning of that experience and what can be learned from it. What makes an essay reflective is that the writer is analyzing a past event from the present. Reflective essays require the writer to open up about their thoughts, reactions and feelings about what they experienced. Your paper should include a detailed summary and description of the experience so that the reader feels they have also experienced it. A common subject covered in a reflective essay include something you’ve read, watched, seen, touched, tasted, smelled, or heard (such as a podcast, webinar or article).  Choose ANY ONE of the following TED Talks as described below.

TED Talk webinar:

TED Talks are videos of segments presented by experts at the annual TED conference held every year.  TED Talks were begun in 1984 out of the observation by Richard Saul Wurman, an architect and graphic designer, that a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design was developing. The first TED, which he co-founded with Harry Marks, included a demo of the compact disc, the e-book and cutting-edge 3D graphics from Lucasfilm, while mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot demonstrated how to map coastlines using his developing theory of fractal geometry.   But despite a stellar lineup, the event lost money, and it was six years before Wurman and Marks tried again. This time, in 1990, the world was ready. The TED Conference became an annual event in Monterey, California, attracting a growing and influential audience from many various different disciplines united by their curiosity and open-mindedness — and also by their shared discovery of an exciting secret. Today, the conference segments plus additional presentations are videotaped and available for viewing.  Choose a TED Talk in the area of business ethics, management, leadership or finance for your reflection paper (they are available on YouTube).  If you have trouble finding one see me and I will help you.

This paper is worth 200 points.  See the rubric for grading your paper for detailed information.
