Memorandum (memos). Memorandum (memos). Memorandum (memos) are a common workplace writing format. For your assignment paper, you will first prepare an outline of the issues you will present in a memo and then you will write an analytical style memo with statements supported by research (primarily from our course materials in this scenario) – not an opinion piece. This assignment is based on the following scenario:

Imagine you are the Communications Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management. Your division director wants to ensure that the agency utilizes optimal communication methods. She has asked you to conduct research and write her a memo analyzing public sector communication and crisis communication. In your analysis include at least three lessons learned and/or key aspects regarding public sector communication from recent emergency situations (particularly Hurricane Katrina) AND highlight why communication is critical to public sector functioning.

For your outline, which is due no later than Sunday, you need to research public sector communication and crisis communication (in addition to the required readings for this learning module you should locate some other viable sources related to public sector communication and crisis communication).

As you prepare the outline, be sure to review the Outline Instructions (attached).

Ensure that your outline includes your introductory paragraph, a thesis statement that states the main purpose of your memo, and an outline of the points and sub-points that will be included in your memo. Also, remember to include specific references to the sources that you are using to support your discussion points.

Submit your outline in the Assignment Paper 1 Outline dropbox by clicking on the ‘Assignment Paper 1 Outline’ link located below the learning module information (scroll to the bottom of the screen). Submit your outline by attaching a Word document (do this by clicking on the ‘Browse My Computer’) button and then uploading your file. Be sure to click the Submit button.
