For this assignment you may work in groups of 2 or 3, or if you prefer you may work alone. If you choose to work in a group, the assignment must be presented as ONE document arranged as follows:
Sections I, II, and III: ONE document from the group (include ALL names) – followed by
Section IV, and V: as INDIVIDUAL documents (include individual name) from each student in the group
The grade for each student will include the total from the first three sections, as well as the individual total for each student – in this way, it is possible for students in the group to receive DIFFERENT grade totals.

CONTENT and GRADING RUBRIC: 100 points
Section I: Introduction – In this section you should present the title of the song as well as the two arrangements/artists you are using for the assignment. Include any important history about the song or artists, your personal connections to the music or artist, why you have chosen this music, and how it relates to your concept of music. (15 points)
Section II: General discussion – In this section you will discuss each song presentation in regards to overall style, performance practices, and mood. Be descriptive and detailed in your discussion. A discussion of lyrics/interpretation might be helpful here as well – especially if you notice any connections between the music, the lyrics, and the overall mood. (25 points)
Section III: Comparison – In this section you will do a comparison of the two songs with discussion and reference to the musical elements: (a) timbre, (b) rhythm/tempo/meter, (c) dynamic, (d) melody and harmony, (e) musical texture, and (f) formal organization. It is important that you are clear and detailed in your discussion in this section. (25 points)
Section IV: Personal preference – In this section you should provide a discussion of which arrangement you prefer and why. This should be more than a general statement about your preferences. (15 points)
Section V: Conclusion – This would be an overall assessment of the assignment. Did you enjoy the process? Do you feel that you have a better understanding of the musical aspects of these songs? Explain your ideas in detail. (10 points)
