Heroines and Princesses in Disney’s America
Music Assignment
As we have discussed in class, music plays a critical role in deepening our understanding of characters’ personalities, relationships and motives behind their behavior and choices. Music also creates and manipulates moods and lets the audience know when a scene or part of a scene has changed. Music often acts as a character in itself.
In this assignment, you will select a pair of songs from one of the categories below. View the video clips online, read the lyrics (see the link, below. If the lyrics are not at that link, then google them) and the appropriate chapters in Raustad in order to understand the film and characters. The youtube clips are about 3 minutes each. This is not a formal essay. Instead, answer the following questions in one to two complete sentences each (you will lose points if you use bullet points):
1. What category are these songs from? Describe the category and how it fits in the film’s plot.
2. Which characters are singing the songs?
3. What is the song about? What emotions and desires are the character(s) expressing?
4. What is the setting for the song? How does the setting contribute to the mood and topic?
5. In what ways are the songs different, such as how the character (s) express themselves, what they want, what obstacles they have encountered?
6. In what ways are the songs similar, such as how the character (s) express themselves, what they want, what obstacles they have encountered?

Sesame Street and culture

Sesame Street and culture. Sesame Street and culture.

It has been said that Sesame Street influenced the way children learn. Culture is just one aspect where Sesame Street tries to teach children about diversity. You can use the website growing up Sesame Street http://www.sesameworkshop.org/insidetheworkshop to help you get ideas. I want each of you to create a Sesame Street character for a culture. It can be any culture using the definition from the text. You can and should search further for more information about this topic. Also there is a documentary about Sesame Street discussing this very topic.

1)You will have to pick a culture. Remember the definition of culture from class.

2)Create a character. Choose colors and gender and a name. Remember the characters will have to fit a culture you feel is not already represented on the show

3)Make sure you are able to defend your choices. Let the class know why you chose these colors and the name.

4)Finally choose the message you want your character to project. What is the ultimate lesson you want him/her to teach.

Trull and Carter’s emphasis on integrity being the unifier for “character, conduct, and moral vision”.[1] Unity is an important concept. Moral vision provides the goal that shapes character through one’s conduct. The challenge in a multi-cultural, pluralistic society at large, and various expressions of the Christian faith via denominational and non-denominational churches, how does one distinguish between integrity in living worthy of the calling we receive, and integrity in relation to congregational expectations? Another way to think about the question is “What does a minister do when exercising ministry may be perceived by some congregants as immoral or wrong?
