Book Review

Book Review. Book Review. **The 2nd Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

There are four major parts to the book review. These are;

•Introduction

•Summary

•Analysis

•Conclusion

Each section must be written in paragraph form with good sentence structure. Submissions must demonstrate correct capitalization, punctuation, and other grammatical structure. You will want to type your book review into a word document first, then copy/paste into the submission box to upload for grading.

Introduction: This section must include the following items:

1. Title (underlined) and Author

2. Publisher, year, number of pages

3. Genre

4. One or two sentences to introduce the book.
Summary:

Fiction: This section should include the parts of the plot (situation, conflict, cause and effect, turning point, and resolution). It should be 2 -3 paragraphs in length.

Non-Fiction: This section should explain what the book is about, and also be organized in 2-3 paragraphs.

Analysis: This section should provide information about the writer and their writing style.

Fiction Example: The tone of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind is a love story set against the backdrop of the Civil War. The unlikely heroine, motivated by selfish desire, is the strength that holds everything together during a time when everything is falling apart. You should identify how the writer used at least one particular element (situation, conflict, cause and effect, turning point, and resolution) with an example from the text.

Non-Fiction Example: Discuss the writer and how this book came about. What makes this writer an expert on the subject? Has this book made an impact on anything significant?

Conclusion: This section should include your opinion of the reading selection. You should add your impression of the selection, or emphasize what you want your reader to know about the selection. Don’t just say you liked or did not like the book. Explain your opinion and provide examples from the reading to justify your statement.

Chang, Jung. Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China.

In the review, we will analyze how the different aspects of the
communist revolution studied in class impacted and reshaped the life of the memoir’s author (and his/her family).

We will also discuss the author’s ideological and political position(s) he/she presented in his/her narrative. Why have this memoir become best-sellers in the English world? What kind of impression(s) of China, especially China under Mao, American readers might get from this memoir?

*Introduction
Identify the name of the author and the book title and the main theme. Somewhere in your introduction you must provide a succinct, clear evaluation of the book. This evaluation is the thesis for your book review. Your thesis should encompass three main components:
What the main argument of the book is.
Your evaluation of the book such as its strengths and contributions, weaknesses and shortcomings.
Why and/or in what ways you think the work demonstrates these strengths and weaknesses.

*Summary of content
This should be brief, as analysis takes priority. Provide a brief summary or overview of the book. Take great care not to simply repeat or mirror everything in the book. Step back and identify what its essential arguments are and briefly summarize them.
You may want to comment on (not limited to):
What is the book’s thesis?
How is it organized? What are the major arguments?
What types of evidence are presented?

*Analysis and evaluation of the book
This section should constitute the bulk of your review.
Your analysis and evaluation should be organized into paragraphs that deal with single aspects of your argument. Differentiate elements of your criticism and pair assertions with evidence more clearly. Given the argument you want to make, you can organize your paragraphs more usefully by themes, methods, or other elements of the book. Make sure to use examples and avoid excessive quotation.

*Conclusion
Sum up – restate your thesis, make the final judgment regarding the book. This paragraph needs to balance the book’s strengths and weaknesses in order to unify your evaluation. You’re entitled—and sometimes obligated—to voice strong agreement or disagreement.
Overall, what does this work contribute to its field? What limitations does it possess? Does it suggest interesting avenues for future research? How does the book contribute to its field (media and privacy)?
