Chartres Cathedral

Chartres Cathedral. Chartres Cathedral. This assignment has two components: a first draft and a final presentation. The first draft is due two days before the end of the term and the final presentation is due on the last day of class. This is designed to allow your classmates to give you feedback before you turn in your final presentation to the Final Project Unit 10 Dropbox for grading. See the “Virtual Tour” rubric in the Syllabus section for more detail on how this project will be assessed.

For this assignment you will prepare a virtual tour of works and sites of the Gothic period and the Fourteenth century in Europe, using PowerPoint, Keynote, Word, or other digital tool, saved as a PDF file. You will attach a first draft of your presentation to the Discussion thread for Unit 10. Your peers will review and provide feedback via the Discussion thread. You will do the same for your peers’ projects.

Here are the guidelines:

1. Review Chapters 16 and 17 (optional) of your text and the multi-media resources.

2. Identify seven different works from the Gothic period and the Fourteenth Century in Europe (optional); select one each from the seven categories listed below

A work of stained glass
A manuscript
A painting
A work of architecture
A sculpture
A work crafted from precious metals
And one additional work of your choice
Please be sure that all types of art listed above are represented and come from the Twelfth through the Fourteenth-Century periods in Europe.

3. You will create a written and visual presentation that functions like a virtual exhibit or tour through these periods.

4. Write a short introduction slide (200 words) that gives an overview of the Gothic period, its socio-cultural characteristics and the impact these had on the art that was created. The overall goal of this presentation is to provide a visual narrative that guides viewers through a virtual exhibit/tour and teaches them about the art of these periods.

5. You will create 1-3 slides/visual pages for each art work. Include an image, a short introductory paragraph (150 words) on the characteristics of the style, something about the artist (s), and an analysis of the work. Please make sure to identify all works by name, artist, date, and country of origin and style.

6. Write a short conclusion (200 words) that summarizes your visual tour. Tell us what you learned about the series of works you are displaying. Discuss how the works you selected represent the period and how they relate to the larger social and cultural themes of the time.

7. Include a citation page at the end of the presentation.

Note
NOTE: When you write about art history remember the DICP Elements and always consider the social, economic, cultural, and psychological context within which the works were created. Always identify a work by naming the artist and title of the work. Use the appropriate terminology to describe the formal characteristics, techniques, tools, structures, and periods of the art work(s) in question. All assignments require research from at least, three reliable academic sources, MLA style in-text citations and a "Works Cited" section. Be sure give specific examples of art works you’ve studied in the unit.

Asia Cosplay culture with femininity

Asia Cosplay culture with femininity. Asia Cosplay culture with femininity. In the beginning of this essay I would like to giving a knowledge of where Asia Cosplay culture come from and how it become one of the popular sub-culture in Asia specially in Japan and Taiwan.

Secondly, I would like to discuss why some Asian women prefer to cosplay as a male character rather than female character. Is it a way to show their desire of wanted to having more masculine personality which it’s hard to present in their real live because Asian female stereotype? Or this is a character to make them have reason to freely express their real identity?
Within this discussion I would love to bring in the following theoretical subjects such as, sub-culture, post-subcultureal, body-images, femininity, Asian female beauty stander ( big eyes, skin whitening products) etc.

Federico Garcia Lorca

Federico Garcia Lorca. Federico Garcia Lorca. According to Federico Garcia Lorca ,there are four characteristics of "El Duende": (1) irrationality, (2) earthiness, (3) a heightened awareness of death, and (4) a dash of the diabolical.
Please list two specific examples of "El Duende" that you can find in the first two acts of the play. Use actual quotations from the script itself, and explain which characteristics of the 4 above you found in that quotation. (There are examples of el duende on literally every page! So I don’t want you to copy other students’ examples. Find new ones if you can!)

Federico Garcia Lorca: prompt #2
Collapse
Now that you’ve read the entire play, explain some of the ways this script is unique. What aspects of this script might make it a particularly exciting piece to stage for a director?
In what ways would this script pose (possibly inspiring) challenges for actors and designers? Assuming you had the skill, what role (actor, designer, director, etc.) would you want to take in a production of this play?

Monsters in Maya Water

Monsters in Maya Water. Monsters in Maya Water. Final Paper
12pt type, double-spaced with one-inch left-justified margins.
You MUST include a Bibliography or Works Cited and parenthetical citations in the text or footnotes where appropriate. No paper will be accepted without these.
MLA format for research papers.
Illustrations/photos must be at the end of the paper and labeled with their source, which must be included in the Bibliography or Works Cited.
Mechanics:
– Typed, paper copy
– 6-8 pages in length
– Double-spaced
– 1-inch margins
– Spell check a MUST.
– Bibliography a MUST (see below for details).

Introduction:
Begin your essay with a clear and concise overview of your topic. What is the issue, question, or problem with which you are concerned? State it plainly. Briefly introduce the major research on the problem that has been done, specifically including the works of other authors. How or what will your question contribute to our understanding of Maya art, archaeology, and culture? This should be a brief, very specific paragraph, not an overview of Maya civilization. Beware of using “filler” just to get to the required page length!

Body of Paper:
From the overview presented in your Introduction, proceed to the specifics that will argue your point or provide evidence to investigate your question. Select the examples carefully, whether they are sides of an argument, or works of art. Describe them fully, citing the appropriate authors whose work you have researched. (See note on plagiarism below). Most importantly, bring your own creative and analytical skills to bear in describing, discussing, and analyzing your examples. Descriptive details are crucial! Dates are essential! Evaluate the evidence, weigh its relevance to Maya studies, and tell the reader why and how the examples you discuss and analyze are crucial for developing our knowledge of your topic. This is where you not only review available scholarly information, but also provide your own unique approach and voice.

Conclusion:
In one or two clear, concise, and tightly presented paragraphs, summarize your argument. Review the evidence briefly, once again citing the authors upon whose work you have relied, as well as your own unique insights. Tell the reader how your work has contributed to a better understanding of the problem. Finally, suggest how further research and evidence could help advance our knowledge. Leave a path for others to follow!

Research:
I require that you use at least TWO scholarly books – no encyclopedias – to complete this research assignment. Many such books are on reserve for the class and many more are in our stacks. Inter-library loan is also available to you – plan ahead!
http://inside.massart.edu/library.html

Use the online database resources such as jstor. See Inside Mass Art Library http://inside.massart.edu/library.html and use ONLY reputable, scholarly articles, and professional or academic websites such as MESOWEB and FAMSI. Museum and university websites can be useful, although they are designed for a general audience. Avoid un-juried and commercial Internet sites if possible, and NO Wikipedia!

Bibliography:
REQUIRED!! No paper will receive a grade without one. MLA or Chicago styles are both acceptable – just be consistent.
