Public Health – Sexual/Reproductive Health

Public Health – Sexual/Reproductive Health. Public Health – Sexual/Reproductive Health.

INSTRUCTIONS

Here is the scenario: You were just hired as a community health educator by FHI 360. FHI 360 works in more than 70 countries and is a major international nonprofit. FHI 360 is known for its expertise in family and reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS. Your assignment is located in Zambia to work on the Zambia-led Prevention Initiative (ZPI). Your generic job duties are to provide both intimate partner violence prevention and HIV/AIDS community education in rural Zambia to at risk populations. At risk is defined as rural Goba women, from the ages of 12 to 99 years old. As part of your job orientation, your employer was kind to have you read the document – ZAMBEZI GOBA. The reason you were given this article to read is because Chet used to be the FHI 360 Zambian Country lead. Chet is now in academia and not affiliated with FHI 360. You do not have access to Chet anymore. You read the article, and FHI 360 has arranged for your travel to highlands town (e.g., Terrytown) with a population of 50,000 people. Terrytown is a former diamond mining town. You are the only FHI 360 employee in this highland town, Terrytown. You are housed in the local hotel. That hotel room is your home and your office. You are not placed in the local health center. The health center is suspicious of your work, and does not want to collaborate with FHI 360. Welcome to what it is like in public health! I have been in a similar situation. This is hard work. As part of your country orientation, your employer gave you a country profile to assist you with your job duties. In the last decade the Zambian highlands has repeatedly been described as area with high HV rates and intimate partner violence. The homicide rate reached an average of 55 murders per 50,000 people between 2000 and 2019, which is more than double the average rate for Zambia and more than three times the average global figure. According to Zambian national health data, HIV rates for Terrytown remain one of the lowest in Zambia. Moreover, half of Terrytown’s Goba women (49.3 per cent) consider crime and insecurity to be the main regional problem. In addition, in recent years a noticeable drop in intimate partner violence has been seen, but Terrytown’s health center health data indicate that HIV rates remain one of the highest in Zambia. That is odd, and I would ask why is that the case? Key excerpts from your job description are: “The objective of your intimate partner violence prevention and HIV/AIDS community education program is to strengthen local capacities for the prevention and reduction of violence and HIV prevention. The Zambia-led Prevention Initiative (ZPI) is aligned with the Zambian government’s Five-year Development Plan and with the Municipal Plan for Coexistence and Citizen Security developed by the FHI 360. The strategy was based around three main areas: Strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of regional rural civil society organizations to prevent and reduce violence and HIV. Creating safe, sustainable and inclusive public spaces to contribute to the reconstruction of the social fabric of Terrytown. Increasing the capacities of young people in Terrytown municipality and their opportunities for personal and community development.”

Instructions: write a full 2-page reflective paper on the following questions: On your first day in Terrytown, what would you do? What strategies would you employ to collaborate with Terrytown’s health center? Why do you think there is a decrease of intimate partner violence? Why is there an increase of HIV locally? What public health core competencies would you rely on to do your job?

The paper will present the information above in a scholarly paper that is 5-7 pages in length. The paper must be submitted in APA format and include a minimum of 5-7 scholarly references in APA format.

Mad in America Book Review

Mad in America Book Review. Mad in America Book Review.

INSTRUCTIONS

Respond to each of the following prompts. Use examples directly from the class textbook and Mad in America. Outside research is not required. There is not a total page requirement, I would roughly estimate this as a 2.25-3 page paper depending on your writing style. You are graded on quality, not length. Be sure to read the general writing notes at the bottom of this page.

Part One: The Original Bedlam (1750-1900) Identify and briefly explain one similarity and one difference between health care and mental health care in this time period. Note: Review the Preindustrial era in chapter 3 of your textbook. One paragraph for the similarity, one paragraph for the difference. Be sure to draw direct comparisons.

Part Two: The Darkest Era (1900-1950) Chapter 3 of your class Textbook discusses the evolution of the medical profession as part of the Post-Industrial era. Briefly compare the evolution of physical health doctors and psychiatry/psychology. Were they similar? Different? How? Note: This should be 1-2 paragraphs maximum. Use direct examples to demonstrate your understanding and be sure to explain why you compared concepts as similar, different, or both.

Part Three: Back to Bedlam (1950-1990s) This section directly challenges modern psychiatry, exposes a very dark period in modern history, and is the most controversial. Whitaker places the treatment of people with mental illness in the context of global sentiments and events. He is quite critical of both the media and pharmaceutical companies. What is your general observation and reaction to this section? Choose two topics that grabbed your attention and tell me why you chose them. Why are the significant and worthy of your time? Note: One paragraph maximum each topic. Things you might consider but are not restricted to: Were you shocked? Did this happen in your family? Does this run counter to your own knowledge or beliefs? Is the portrayal of this time period accurate (why or why not)?

Part Four: Mad Medicine Today (1990s-Present) This section marks the conclusion of Whitaker’s history of the evolution of mental health in the United States and the point in which you decide what you take from this book. Do you agree or disagree with Whitaker’s summation in Chapter 11, why or why not? Be sure to use examples to support your conclusion(s). Note: One to two paragraphs maximum.

Healthcare Course Work Assignment

Healthcare Course Work Assignment. Healthcare Course Work Assignment.

INSTRUCTIONS

Do you agree that the rule identified by your colleague is patient-related? What other ways can adherence to this rule improve quality of care and patient safety? Respond to the following I think rule number 4 which is “shared knowledge and free flow information”1 relates to patient engagement. The rule expects effective communication and information sharing between clinicians and patients. Patients are expected to have unrestrictive access to medical information concerning them as well as clinical knowledge of their condition.1 This rule goes in line with two of the five-phase continuum employed to promote patient engagement. These are: inform me and engage me. Patients having access to their records and care documents is a way of keeping the patient informed of their health status. Providing patients with clinical knowledge, as well as proper communication between patients and clinicians engages the patient in their care. When patients have a good understanding of their state of health, they can better participate in their care management and would be able to provide more concise information to their clinicians. To improve quality of care, measures are directed towards the four factors affecting health which are health behaviors, social factors, economic factors, and physical environment.2 A way of promoting health behavior is by educating the patient, empowering them to understand their health condition and ways of preventing the deterioration of their health. This promotes better self-care management of the patient and thus better health outcome. Health outcomes realized depend on the quality and safety of care provided.2 By encouraging the sharing of knowledge and information between patients and clinicians, patients gain a better understanding of their health status which favors adapting to healthy behaviors, which in turn leads to better health outcomes, and thus improving quality of care.

parenthood

parenthood. parenthood. As discussed in Tong, assisted-reproduction technologies – like all technologies – are neither entirely beneficial nor entirely harmful. When used properly and realistically, they can provide infertile couples with a child they could not otherwise have. Surrogacy can be viewed in much the same way.

Nevertheless, the reasons behind the creation of these technologies, as well as the reasons for the need for surrogate arrangements, indicate that there are underlying issues that might need to be equally researched and addressed, such as the myriad of potential causes of infertility, changes to the traditional notions and structure of family and relationships, shifts in cultural and societal norms, etc.

With all that in mind, address the following ;

Is parenthood a right? Support your position maintaining an academic focus.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of surrogate motherhood arrangements for non-traditional relationships and marriages (gays, lesbians, single women, single men).

obesity epidemic in the US

obesity epidemic in the US. obesity epidemic in the US.
Many disease variations have already emerged as important issues, including penicillin-resistant staph infections, new viral strains, and the reemergence of tuberculosis. Perhaps the most far-reaching problem in healthcare today, however, is the obesity epidemic. Despite the fact that study after study shows that overweight and obese people are more likely to have diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, restaurants continue to supersize meal portions and Americans continue to snack on high-calorie foods as they watch TV or engage in other sedentary activities.

Analyze the obesity epidemic in the US using the concepts of wellness and illness (Tong, pages 70 – 75).

Once you’ve reviewed the reading, answer the following:

Is obesity an illness or a disease? Why?
What is the difference between curing and healing? Which concept should the healthcare system rely on more, when addressing issues of obesity in the US?
How can the healthcare system in the US use the five dimensions of illness to effectively address the obesity epidemic? Or, is one dimension more legitimate than the others?
